What business should you start?

It reads like a market question. It is not. The answer is in what you already do when nobody is paying you, and you have never been asked about it properly.

You have typed this question into a search bar before. What came back was a list: 27 businesses to start this year, 100 side businesses, ranked by margin. You read it, felt briefly awake, and started nothing.

A list cannot answer the question, because a list does not know you. And the question, read carefully, is not about the market at all.

The question is asked backwards

Two people can start the same business in the same month at the same price. One is still there in year 3. The other stopped in week 6 and cannot say why.

The idea was identical. The difference was the person. So the useful version of the question is not what business is good. It is which business survives contact with you.

“I only finish things when someone is watching.” Whoever wrote that sentence should not start a business that pays out in year 2, alone.

What the usual answers hand back

The alternatives, and what each returns

Personality tests
A four-letter code or a label. No business, no model, no price. Nobody ever turned INFJ into revenue.
Ikigai worksheets
Four circles and the right questions, with the synthesis left entirely to you — the one thing you cannot do alone.
Idea generators
A market-shaped idea that belongs to nobody. An idea you did not earn is easy to drop in week 3.
A chatbot, freehand
Agreement. It asks nothing hard, never pushes back, and flatters the answer you gave. It feels true for an hour.
A human advisor
Real work, at €100 to €250 an hour, after two weeks of scheduling, and never at 2am when the doubt arrives.

The evidence is already in your behaviour

Nobody knows what they want. Everybody leaves a record of what they do. That record is the answer, and it is made of five uncomfortable facts.

What you do when nobody pays you. What you resent in other people, which is usually what you want and will not admit. What you have quit, and at which exact week it stopped. What you finish only under a witness. What you would still do if it never made money.

Those are not preference questions, and a form cannot collect them. Preferences are what you say. Behaviour is what happened. Only one of the two predicts what you will still be doing in 18 months.

Why the answer has to be one business

A shortlist of five is a way of not deciding. You have had a shortlist for years, in a notes app you no longer open, and it has never produced anything.

One named business is falsifiable. You can start it on Saturday, or say precisely why it is wrong. Being able to say why is itself the most useful thing you get.

What Goaly does instead

Goaly is an interrogation, not a quiz. About 30 questions, each one written from your previous answer. Vague answers are refused once, plainly. Around answer 20 it puts two of your own sentences side by side, in quotation marks, and asks which one is true.

Then it returns the Verdict: one named Archetype, with the drives and the traps that come with it. And one Venture — its business model, its price, its first plausible customer.

Every claim in it is followed by a Receipt: your own sentence, quoted exactly. It is not a horoscope you can argue with. It is your own testimony, read back to you, with the conclusion drawn.

The Verdict costs €39 once, with a refund inside 14 days if it is not you. The Interview is not open yet. Leave your address below and Goaly writes to you the day it opens.
